Lapping

Lapping programs are designed to reinforce lessons learned during a school and provide an opportunity to generate “seat time” for those wishing to progress. Experience with the Panoz GT-RA race car has clearly defined a need for two types of lapping days, one for drivers experienced in the GT-RA on this track (Lapping 1) and one for drivers new to the car or track (Lapping 2). Under normal circumstances, each group would receive four, 20-minute sessions which amounts to approximately 100 miles of track time. Computer Lapping is available.

Eligibility

Lapping 1: Drivers who have recently completed a 3-Day Road Racing program in the Panoz GT-RA at the track in question or have already successfully completed previous Lapping Days at the track in question.

Lapping 2: Drivers who have completed an accredited road racing program within the last 12 months or possess a current road racing license from a suitable sanctioning body and who have not yet driven a Panoz GT-RA at the track in question.

Lapping 1 Curriculum
Introductions / Procedure Review
Van Tour with Instructor
Four 20 Minute Open Track Sessions

Lapping 2 Curriculum
Introductions / Procedure Review
Van Tour with Instructor
Lead / Follow session behind instructor
Four 20 minute sessions total (one lead/follow session, three open sessions)

Procedures
Two run groups will alternate with one group driving and the other watching from corners. Instructors will be at most corners to make notes and debrief drivers between sessions. Instructors will look for students to make steady progress through the day and demonstrate common sense and situational awareness in their efforts. Students are observed in relation to their racing line, smooth hand and foot work and car control. Any loss of control of the car, including spins, two or four wheels off, etc. require an immediate pit visit for a vehicle check and friendly analysis of the mistake. Three losses of control during the day require the student to sit the rest of the day out.

Costs
The Lapping Day tuition is $1,095 with the student having full liability for any crash damage they incur. Damage waivers are available at $100 per day to limit crash liability to $5000 per incident. Helmets and suits are available at no cost and lunch is included. Participants will be charged $50 per tire if damage occurs while driving, including flat spots. Lapping Day students are also liable for over-revs. Over-revs will be charged on a sliding scale depending on the severity of the incident. Charges start at $25 per each 100 rpm over-rev. Computer Lapping with data acquisition is available during scheduled Lapping Days. The cost is $1,650.
